Ronaldo MartinezRonaldo Martinez was 39 when he was diagnosed with laryngeal (throat) cancer. He had his voice box removed and now speaks by using a machine that gives him a computerized-sounding voice. Because the procedure left him with a permanent hole in the middle of his throat, Ronaldo is not able to swim or go in the water. He now must visit the doctor every twelve weeks to see if the cancer in his throat has come back. "I'm always afraid of bad news," he says. "I will have to do this for the rest of my life." |
